Antioxidants Derived from Natural Products Reduce Radiative Damage in Cultured Retinal Glia to Prevent Oxidative Stress

چکیده
Retinal pathologies have been heavily studied in response to radiation and microgravity, including spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome (SANS), which is commonly developed space flight. SANS has characterized clinical studies of astronauts returning Earth includes a range symptoms, such as globe flattening, optic-disc edema, retinal folds, ischemia. In cases insult, Müller glia (MG) cells respond via neuroprotective gliotic responses that may become destructive produce glial scarring vison loss over time. pathology further impacted by the production excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) stimulate inflammation furthers gliosis MG. Neuroprotectants derived from natural products (NPs) able scavenge excess ROS mitigate long-term, garnered recent interest, especially among mature aging adults. The antioxidants aloin ginkgolide A flavonoids, Aloe vera Ginkgo biloba species, respectively, particular interest due their use other nervous-system studies. current study examined MG behaviors different doses time measuring changes morphology, survival, within microscale assays. was enhanced using galactic cosmic rays (GCR) at Brookhaven NASA Space Radiation Laboratory simulate ionizing low- high-radiation parameters. Changes survival radiation-treated were then measured varying dosage NPs. Our used vitro systems evaluate potential NPs reduce oxidative stress retina, highlighting underexplored interplay between NP endogenous both terrestrially.

متن کاملOxidative Stress and Role of Natural Plant Derived Antioxidants in Animal Reproduction
The experimental knowledge on the role of oxidative stress, and beneficial and detrimental effects of plant derived antioxidants in male and female animal reproduction are reviewed in this article. Free radical-induced oxidative stress in animal reproduction causes great loss to livestock industry. Antioxidant therapy has been implicated to be effective in preventing diseases resulted from oxid...
متن کاملFeeding to Reduce Oxidative Damage
Although they are necessary for many physiological functions, when produced in excess or without adequate resolution, free radicals may contribute to several equine diseases. For example, an 83% difference in protein carbonyls, a marker of oxidative damage to proteins, was noted in synovial fluid of horses with joint disease compared to non-diseased joints. In another instance, thiobarbituric r...
متن کاملAntioxidants, oxidative damage and oxygen deprivation stress: a review.
Oxidative stress is induced by a wide range of environmental factors including UV stress, pathogen invasion (hypersensitive reaction), herbicide action and oxygen shortage. Oxygen deprivation stress in plant cells is distinguished by three physiologically different states: transient hypoxia, anoxia and reoxygenation. Generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is characteristic for hypoxia and ...
